Did you know EndNote has both a desktop and online component? When used on the desktop, it may be called "EndNote desktop” or “EndNote on the desktop.” When used online, it may be called “EndNote online.” EndNote users with access to the desktop platform can synchronize all the references in one desktop library to their online library, and share the entire library with other EndNote users. Their online library can contain an unlimited number of references and unlimited attachments.
EndNote basic is a more limited reference management solution that is only available online (no affiliation or connection to a desktop version required). EndNote basic users can create a free online library with a maximum of 50,000 references and up to 2GB of attachments.
The free version of EndNote basic has 21 styles and a limited number of filters and connection files. This version is available to anybody, with no other purchase required.
If you only have access to a free EndNote website account (and not the desktop version of EndNote) you are considered an EndNote basic user.
A few of the key features of EndNote basic/online include:
Provide anytime/anywhere access to your EndNote online library
Import and Export references
Organise and group reference in your library
Sync with your desktop library (feature only available to those with EndNote installed on to a computer)
Cite While You Write in Microsoft Word to insert references and format papers instantly!
