Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ): Mass Medical Care with Scarce Resources: The Essentials

This abbreviated version of a 2007 publication by AHRQ discusses how to provide services in a public health emergency, when medical need outstrips resources, in pre-hospital, hospital, and alternative contexts.

Interagency Coordinating Council on Emergency Preparedness and
Individuals with Disabilities (ICC): Disability Preparedness

ICC was established to ensure that the federal government supports safety and security for individuals with disabilities in disaster situations. Information to help individuals with disabilities develop their own emergency plans is included.

National Library of Medicine (NLM): Environmental Health & Toxicology: Enviro-Health Links

NLM’s Specialized Information Services division offers information on environmental health issues and toxicology. Each section includes definitions, planning guides, one-click TOXNET and PubMed searches, key journal articles, and links to consumer-oriented health information. Emerging threats are promptly added.

National Resource Center for Advancing Emergency Preparedness for Culturally Diverse Communities

 Developed by the Drexel University School of Public Health’s Center for Health Equality, this site  aims to “improve preparedness, build resilience and eliminate disparities for culturally diverse communities across all phases of an emergency.” The Language section includes links to a variety of resources in over fifty languages.

US Department of Health & Human Services: Radiation Emergency Medical Management (REMM)

Primarily for health care providers, REMM offers information about radiation event response and provides guidance on diagnosis and treatment. The site is available in versions that are optimized for the iPhone or iPodTouch, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Palm OS.
